+Sorolla. The color of the sea. Until Oct. 20th.
Sorolla's unique way of capturing the blues of the sea in his paintings is the focus of this educational show about colour. The show brings together 66 canvases from the museum's own collection, some of them on display for the first time, as well as several objects related to the painting process.
'Sorolla: The Colour of the Sea' explores Joaquín Sorolla's method of studying the 'natural' and his use of colour. To this end, the museum has selected a group of paintings in which the sea is the central theme.
According to the museum: 'It's a show aimed at the general public, non-experts of any age, which gives them a closer look at colour from an educational point of view.'
'Sorolla: The Color of the Sea' consists of pieces from the museum's collection including paintings and some of his apuntes, little oil panels or cartoons. Easy to transport, the Valencian artist used these 'notes' to record his study of colour.
